Untitled, 2015
Wall drawing series

When graffiti involves anti-administration rhetoric, its removal in Istanbul takes place in two stages. The first stage belongs to police in civilian attire. They scribble over the original text to render it illegible. The second stage is the municipality painters' who only paint over the scribbles of the police.

In Untitled, Selin walks around her neighborhood and marks her presence over the censored areas with a paint brush physically attached to her hands. The white lines she draws echo her height and movements. Expression is a natural outcome of any and all presence, be it civilian, police officer or city worker.
